My Students

Eric Jensen wrote, "One of the most powerful ways to engage students is to let them take charge of their own learning." Help students take charge of the way they learn music and discover their unique talents!

In a melting pot of individuals from all different walks of life, my students attend school seeking stability, safety, and support.

Middle school is a time for self-discovery and many of my students are in survival mode. They seem to find refuge in music and have diverse talents beyond belief. Unfortunately, our music resources have deteriorated within recent years.

As a new teacher, my students have instilled their trust in me. Eager 6th, 7th and 8th graders flood the band room during class, lunch and after school to take charge of their learning experiences. We are constantly working together to help rebuild a safe and creative space for music learning, and celebrating the small victories every step of the way!

My Project

I have chosen to ask for a Valentino Repair Kit, a screwdriver set and D Batteries to help bring our musical instruments back to life. Many of our school's instruments will need professional repair, but having in-school repair supplies will benefit the small repair needs.

Working instruments create stronger student confidence, progress and interest in band.

It is important to keep instruments in good shape so instruments and student interests do not deteriorate over time.

These repair kit and batteries will be used as needed to fix natural middle-school wear and tear on instruments for as long as supplies last!
