My Students

Bright colored murals, beautiful garbs, fresh fruits, ​and vegetables at the corner market and the smell of delicious Indian food coming from the nearby kitchen. This is the environment my students live in. Parkchester is a beautiful neighborhood that embodies the Indian culture. Unfortunately, my school is in a low-income neighborhood. Many of my students, a diverse mix of cultures too, attend a school that strives to give these eager students who are ready to learn an excellent education. Many of them are first-generation Americans and are excited to begin school!

My Project

Going through my keepsake box, which has all of my projects and art as a kid, I noticed that I have more work saved from two of my elementary teachers. I realized that a lot of my work that I have were bound into books. These teachers must have had a binding machine in their classroom. I thought to myself, wow, what a genius idea!!

Work that is organized and kept together in a book has a greater chance of being saved for special memories!

What an awesome way to help gather my students' amazing work and create books for them by using this binding machine. Each month my students have a writing task that they complete for their portfolios. Instead of shoving their work in a folder, waiting to get lost. I can use the binding machine to create a book they can cherish forever! Wouldn't it be nice to have them feel like the authors that they are when their own narratives are made into books! At the end of the year their writing celebrations could show their neat books. This basic machine should be a tool in every classroom. It can really help organize their work and make them feel super special and excited to show off and keep their super work!
