My Students

Enhancing the classroom environment for learning is essential for the students to focus and complete assignments.

They come from multi-lingual backgrounds and live in an urban environment.

The majority of my students experience difficulties with reading and reading comprehension and math skills difficulties. They need support with strategies and skills to help them meet grade-level standards. They also lack the confidence to engage in class discussions.

The classroom furniture is well-worn with desks and chairs that are not conducive to learning. The school desks are peeling, and I would like to give my students new desks and tables to help them to engage with each other and work individually on projects. The chairs are also falling apart with laminate wood backing, and the size of the chairs is not appropriate for the age of the children I teach.

I want to include a horseshoe-shaped table and chairs for small group work, individualized work, and group discussions. When we have the table, the classroom environment will be positive and engaging.

I love how my students help each other in class. There are several grade levels together. The lessons include using computers, a small group.

My Project

Students need work surfaces that will enable them to work collaboratively on projects and get individualized attention to skills that they are working on during small group work. Outdated and broken classroom furniture is something that needs to address the different learning situations in my classroom. I chose a horseshoe-shaped table to allow me to work with small groups of students (up to 5) on reading and math skills that are individualized and part of a small group lesson format.

Classroom discussions are better facilitated when students can look at each other and talk about what they have read or seen.

The roundtables will allow students to speak to each other. The horseshoe-shaped table will let me know all student work at the same time.
