Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an ESE (Special Education)/Reading teacher at a middle school in Miami. I teach and support students who have Emotional/Behavior Disorders and learning difficulties. My school is a Title I school, which means that about 99% of the students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch due to their low socioeconomic status. The school is in a high-poverty neighborhood, so many of my students come from families that struggle financially. As a result, my students endure more problems than average children, which interfere with and hinder their learning.

My Project

I want to receive items that would assist my students in earning incentives that could last the school year. My students sometimes struggle to work hard, but incentives and things to look forward to makes them go the extra mile. I want to purchase items that can last and are of variety, such as chips, cookies, Capri suns, sodas, and Gatorade. With the popcorn machine, it will stretch and should last us the whole school year. Also, purchasing the hot dog steamer will benefit the students because hot dogs and buns are not too expensive and an item the students enjoy.

I want my students to have the best educational experience ever, and I also want to provide them with a sense of belonging.

Some students have never had the chance to be kids and enjoy themselves with delicious free snacks. I want to be the teacher they remember that encouraged them to learn and rewarded them, and encouraged them to strive hard. I will also give out food items to the students in need. I often make goodie nags for students to take home. This would be great for students that struggle to eat over the weekend due to financial reasons.
