This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I provide speech and language therapy for three to five year old children in an early childhood education center. My students often have risk factors and most are in a special education setting. I work with students that have developmental delays, selective mutism, Autism and speech and language delays.
My students work on functional communication, vocabulary, social skills, basic concepts, listening and following directions and speech sound production to improve communication skills in the classroom and home environments.
The goal is to better prepare my students for Kindergarten.
My Project
It takes a lot of oil to make this ship run smoothly! That's why I am seeking donations for office supplies! I constantly use lamination, file folders, glue and more! Therefore, I am hoping to restock some basic essentials that I typically purchase myself. I am also attempting to reorganize my desk to be more productive.
Once my things are in order - it will be time to play!
I love working with my preschoolers! (Don't tell them - they think all we do is play!) So, on to the fun things! Toys and games included in this project will target speech and language production while the kids play, play, play!
Toys such as the hedgehog and the gumball game are open-ended so I can focus on several areas while the students 'earn' something after working so hard! Pull back cars will allow us to make matches and describe using color words, thus increasing sentence length and functional vocabulary. Keeping toys and materials interesting is so hard to do when I am fighting attention over today's technology, but with your help, I can do it!
