This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students are WONDERFUL, I am in awe of their resilience, their contagious smiles, their willingness to show up and try even when they don't know how to do it, their sense of humor, their kind hearts and their love of life.

Their lives are hard and demanding, their neighborhood unforgiving and at times dangerous, but despite it all, they show up everyday ready to learn and smiling, and telling you that they love you and that they always look forward to whatever day of the week they have you so that they can see you and make art...

My Project

My students struggle with reading but love to make art! A lot of my students are English language learners, but my art library is primarily in English. I translate as best as I can, but despite my best efforts, i feel that i am missing out on some major teaching and learning opportunities. I would like to have a corner in my art room with many kinds of books, both in English and Spanish, related to art so that the kids can go and relax when their art projects are done, or when they need inspiration!

As a child, i grew up surrounded with books, thanks to my father, and knee deep in paint, thanks to my mother.

I know that if i can create a bridge between the written words, the pictures drawn and the words spoken i can only help my students!
