Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Are my students special? Of course they are!

My students are not special because of their special educational needs; my students are special because of the kindness in their hearts, their ability to move forward in the face of adversity, and their strong work ethic as they face academic challenges.

My students come from a high poverty area. They all experience many different life challenges, so making their time in the classroom as peaceful and productive as possible is my primary goal.

My Project

In our Word Work Centers students will work on their word building skills. Completing the variety of activities included will appeal to many learning styles as students read, write, draw and build their own words. Students will work on C-V-C words, identifying suffixes and prefixes, and punctuation and capitalization.

The Vocabulary Journals will allow students to build researching skills as they find their weekly words in a dictionary.

Building words will also help students work on fine motor skills. They will Identify and isolate sounds in words. They will find similarities in letters and in groups of letter sounds.

My students work very hard and each one of them has set reading and writing goals for themselves this year. Building their word analysis skills will bring them closer to achieving their goals in both areas. They have the desire and the vision. All they need is the resources.
