Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a speech-language teacher working with deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) students, many of whom are migrants and immigrants, the resources I utilize are crucial for fostering language development and communication skills.

The vocabulary skills activity centers provide engaging ways for students to learn new words in a hands-on environment, essential for those who may not have had consistent exposure to English.

Similarly, match and sort vocabulary games allow students to connect words with their meanings visually and contextually, accommodating diverse learning styles and language backgrounds.

The comparing sizes activity box aids in building foundational concepts essential for everyday communication, helping students articulate their thoughts more clearly. Photo cards for vocabulary development serve as visual aids, bridging the gap between their native languages and English, enhancing understanding through imagery. Phonemic awareness activity centers are vital for developing the ability to recognize and manipulate sounds, a skill central to reading and language acquisition.

Additionally, phonics, rhyme, and word family flip books offer structured practice in recognizing patterns in language, which is particularly beneficial for students who may struggle with traditional language instruction. These resources not only support language skills, but also foster a sense of belonging and community among students from varied backgrounds.

By providing engaging and accessible tools, I empower my students to express themselves confidently, paving the way for academic success and social integration. Ultimately, these resources create a supportive learning environment that respects and values their unique experiences and backgrounds.
