Help me give my students copies of their favorite book, "The Book Thief" since neither the school nor our local public libraries have copies for us to use.
Our middle school is a Title I school and serves nearly 800 students in grades sixth through eighth. I teach English language arts, English I, English II, Speech, Debate, and Yearbook. These classes are academically demanding, but a traditional classroom setting is not the best way to learn for each student.
I see almost 200 of these students every day, and all come to me with unique abilities, interests, and needs.
In order to assist these students the most, I need to equip my classroom with a variety of equipment, materials, and supplies.
My Project
Thirty-five copies of "The Book Thief" will provide me with a class set of books that can be used for many years in my classroom.
Advanced learners learn best from engaging literature that allows them to learn not only the literature, but also about history, self, and others.
This book not only provides rich vocabulary, it also allows us to learn about the difference between foreshadowing and telegraphing. We will be able to analyze narrator and point of view from a unique perspective! Students' knowledge of history will be enriched, while they are engaged in a great piece of literature.
