Second Grade Word Problem Success! I teach second grade in an inner city school in California. My school is located in a low socio-economic area where budget cuts are impacting supplies for the students.

I was fortunate to bring my class up from first grade so that we can continue our work in solving word problems by using the 8 Steps of Model Drawing. Unfortunately the school does not provide the supplies that are needed to continue our work.

We need address labels so that precious class time is not spent copying the Math story. I create daily word problems using address labels that are placed in each student's Math journal. I am also using my own printer to print these problems. By providing these supplies we will be able to continue our work and each student will grow in their number sense and familiarity with word problems.

We all remember the days of struggling with word problems in our own education. Your help will make it possible for my students to continue their hard work in understanding word problems. They will have important strategies under their belts so that they will be successful in their future Math classes.
