My Project

Two years ago, funded in part by Donor's Choose and in part by our Montessori Adolescent Microeconomy, we started a native wildlife garden in front of our school.

This year we are seeking to expand that garden and increase the biodiversity in the microhabitat.

Currently, our garden is home to Asters, Coreopsis, Joe Pye Weed, as well a multiple grasses. We are seeking to increase the numbers of spring ephemeral plants and spring flowering plants in order to help pollinators in the early stages of spring. Planting bulbs is key for this.

Additionally, the compost will help increase the soil quality which is key to fostering a healthy woodland garden. Our insect houses will help increase the ability of our garden to produce seeds. We are looking forward to collecting seeds and trying to grow some more of our own plants.
