This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a School Social Worker in the heart of the South Bronx with a love of crochet and I’m seeking funding for “Woobles” crochet kits to pass on my favorite hobby to my middle schoolers!

Crochet has been my favorite go to hobby since I was young to help me relax, decompress, and manage my stress and anxiety with the bonus of having a lovely product afterwards!

I facilitate a crochet elective class weekly with my middle schoolers who learn the art of a hands on skill while socializing with their peers. It has been very rewarding especially for those students who struggle to manage anxiety and stress of life, their school work, the happenings in their immediate community and family life.

Middle school is tough and providing my students a safe space once per week is my favorite part of the week and for those that participate it is their favorite time too!

Having “Woobles” kits that include all of the materials needed for completing an adorable little tangible figure for them to crochet, with the bonus of entertaining them with a hands on activity off screen time, is an experience they can remember years after graduation.
