Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Innovative motion devices and computer technology, when used together, have limitless potential to revolutionize the science classroom community, transforming traditional hands-on technology into a visual arts showcase that all students may appreciate!

In order to prepare our middle school inquiring minds for their future in AP science course work next year and college science courses in the near future, today’s progressive classroom/lab must be continuously vibrant with motion and visual stimulation.

The next step in the evolutionary process of our particular classroom involves the latest data collection devices and motion sensors on the market. I teach eighth grade Physical Science in a school located within historical East Los Angeles. Over 93 percent of our students are eligible for free lunch and breakfast. Although we serve a high-needs community, our API score index shows that we are one of the top performing middle schools in all of LA. Using our “team beats individual” positive mindset and college-bound culture that we have developed as a campus “team and family,” our main goal is aimed at mobilizing our students to and through top high schools, colleges, and universities.

My Project

The LoggerPro live data collecting program act as a valuable key that unlocks a magnificent door, revealing insight into how to use various fundamental lab-based data collection devices centered on pH, temperature, motion, force, and sound. Scientific literacy in the realm of data collection is of utmost necessity if we truly desire our top inner city school children to succeed at the most elite levels of AP high school and introductory college curriculum. The MacBook contains a wealth of programs that allow students to share their work in a visually stimulating manner. We plan to not only collect data during lab/field lessons, but also use the data as a line of evidence in order to showcase science mastery. Using our practical technology skills, we plan to invigorate raw data that we obtain in labs with a spice of various forms of technology media, ranging from developing PowerPoint documents, Excel documents, SMART Board Notebook documents, generating short films and podcasts.

Your most intuitive contribution will assist students to engage, explore, and examine the physical science standards by integrating visual art manifestations throughout the school year.

Every morning, we chant, “I’m going to college!” because we believe in the power of education. With the generous support of those around the nation, please be an integral part of our pathway toward college as we make it happen!
