Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are second-graders in a New York Title I School. Many students in my class are ENL students meaning their first language is not English. They are at a variety of levels in their language acquisition. The students in the class are culturally diverse. In addition, for some families, it is a financial challenge to provide all the school supplies necessary for success. Regardless of these challenges, my students are enthusiastic and eager to learn.

It is important to me that the students in my class enjoy learning and have fun while they are in the classroom!

They learn best while using a variety of tools, strategies, and resources. On a daily basis, they are engaged in acquiring new literacy skills, math skills, and hands-on science or social studies exploration.

My Project

In our classroom, I want my students to have a love of reading. This is best accomplished by having our library filled with high-interest books.

The best way to increase reading ability is to read more!

During D.E.A.R. time students are able to choose any book they are interested in reading. I want to provide many different types of reading materials in a variety of genres and topics to keep them motivated to further develop their literacy skills. My hope is that these books will help my students continue to grow stronger in reading. They already love D.E.A.R. time and so I hope that this project will further enrich their experiences with books.
