Wonderful World of Magnets

My students need a magnetic white board, math magnets, and sound pals so they can visually understand different math concepts, spelling patterns, and also use the magnets that are currently in the classroom in whole class discussions. Along, with a good whiteboard for everyday activities.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach grades 3 through 5 special education in an urban setting. Most of my students come from a low income family. The students in my class are with me for most of the day and have a wide variety of needs and ability levels.

The students I work with have to deal with many obstacles at home and in school. They have to deal with being pulled out of their regular classroom into a self-contained special education classroom which is a very small room. They are old enough to understand that they struggle in reading and Math because of this they want to refuse and will become easily frustrated. This in turn has an impact on their academic progress. In this classroom I have tried to show the children how fun and important reading and math is in a hands-on approach.

The three resources that I have listed would cover an array of different activities. The first and most important item is the magnetic whiteboard. I have some wonderful magnetic resources, but only little boards to use them on. I want to be able to use a big board where the kids can move the items and share with the whole class, it allows for more class interaction. The magnetic board allows me to show how to do a math problem with visuals above it. It is also a whiteboard and can be used for everyday purposes. The math magnet set is the math manipulative's that I would use on the board. I have some reading ones too in my classroom. I also asked for the sound pals because I can use magnets to put them on the board and have the children move words underneath them.

Your help will ensure that my students will build a confidence level in their reading and Math that will give them self confidence in life as a whole. They will become stronger readers, writers and mathematicians. Along with that it will help them to meet their goals and objectives on their IEP's (Individualized Education Plans). Your support would be greatly appreciated by all of my students.
