My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. Over 65% of the students at my school are students who are eligible for free or reduced price lunch, or have parents/guardians who did not receive a high school diploma. I have been teaching at my school for the last 20 years.

My seventh graders are at the age between their childhood/elementary school and before becoming teenagers in high school.

They are full of energy, ideas, and emotions. Finding an opportunity to shepherd their gifts with the curriculum is something I am always looking to do.

My Project

These reading books will help my students become proficient and practiced readers. As you know, reading is like building competence in a sport or activity. You have to build habit, consistency, practice, and interest.

These books would give my students the opportunity to make those first steps to making reading something that is meaningful to them post-elementary.

Needless to say, their reading becomes their access to academic and vocational choices and achievement. Finally, it is during the middle school years that students can lose their interest in reading so having a variety of interesting choices will keep them reading.
