Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I teach enthusiastic third graders at a high poverty school in Arizona. Students from diverse cultural backgrounds enrich our learning environment.
My classroom is a caring community that encourages risk-taking and critical thinking.
Students regularly work together in collaborative learning stations throughout the school day. They learn through inquiry, discussion, and activities aligned and appropriately differentiated to their abilities and interests.
I seek to provide funding for resources to support the continued academic and social growth of my third graders. My students deserve the best!
My Project
This project will introduce my third grade students to an amazing New York Times bestseller: "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio. The themes of this book are kindness, friendship, and courage. The main character encounters many challenges for being different. Yet, he overcomes these challenges and inspires many people along the way.
As stated as one of Mr. Browne's precepts from the book, "When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind." I want to inspire my students to always "choose kind." "Wonder" will engage all students in thinking critically about how their actions influence others.
They will use their response journals to reflect on events from the chapters and to consider how a little kindness can make a big difference.
