My Students

We are a diamond in the rough. JHS 162 is located in the heart of the South Bronx and that is exactly what we have, 'HEART'. One could not imagine the struggles my students face on a daily basis. It is on a daily basis that many of my students most basic needs are not met. The walk to and from schools poses a challenge to many, but they come. We have over ninety-two percent attendance.

My children want to come to school.

Their eagerness is met with an equally dedicated teacher that in turn, will provide the education they so desperately need and even more, deserve.

My Project

I am desperately trying to foster a love of reading in my classroom. I have submitted a number of books in other projects that are highly engaging and extremely motivating for students to read, while developing this idea of acceptance for those that are different from us.

I truly believe in educating the entire child.

The use of books such as "Wonder", by R.J. Palacio helps foster a love of reading. Kids can be cruel at this age. It is crucial to develop this idea of empathy in our children. I believe in order to nurture this idea, we must be able to identify different points of view. I can't think of a better to develop this idea than through diverse literature.
