Help Mrs. Vandermore

As an elementary school counselor for grades k – 8 in a high needs community, I want to help to celebrate the many Heritage Months this year at my school, but I do not have any materials for Women’s History Month.

Our students come to us with such great potential but staggering needs, as many are homeless. This project will help to bridge gaps, and may allow these students to rise above seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

My students like to research and read about their heritage and especially like to present and share their findings with parents. You will make it possible for my students to interact with parents and to read about women's history month. This will hopefully improve reading comprehension and one-on-one time with their parents and or guardians. This will also help our female students with their self esteem.

I want to increase my student's self esteem by helping them to feel empowered and special. I plan on introducing a different topic about heritage and culture into different areas of the curriculum this year and teach a monthly reading unit on Heritage. However we do not have any materials for Women's History month which is in March. We will read stories to help involve my students in the study of women's contributions to the world. In order to help with that, I am asking for books on the women's history.
