Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our Middle School identifies as Title 1, we have a huge population of families that are living in shelters or are experiencing housing insecurity. We would like to empower our students to demonstrate their core values of responsibility, citizenship and respect in academics as well as their social development. We are encouraging our students to participate in community service projects which will build civic engagement and self confidence. There has been research which states volunteering has positive health benefits which are physical, mental and promotes positive social behaviors that can reduce negative risk - taking. Volunteering can also help young people prepare for employment and their transition to responsible adulthood.

We would like to provide our scholars an opportunity to participate in service to their community.

This community service activity will support Women in Need who reside in temporary housing or live in a shelter. We would like to provide basic toiletries such as toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, soap, shampoo, lotion, comb/brush, shower cap and feminine products with positive words of affirmation and encouragement for women that live in temporary or shelters. We will be calling our project the Women's Pamper Project. These packages will be donated to the local shelter of our students choosing.

Our students participate in community service by donating their time and discipline in dance activities, robotics competitions and other activities that demonstrate school spirit. This community service activity will provide students with an opportunity to donate their time by packing bags with toiletries and distributing to women in need. As a school community, we believe our students can be empowered though community service activities which will offer them an opportunity to demonstrate citizenship.
