My Students

My students are young, enthusiastic, and funny, but also misunderstood and sometimes labeled according to mistakes they've made. My students long to see themselves represented in a positive light in the books they read. It is a beautiful experience to watch my students connect with literature.

My Project

My students need a well rounded classroom library filled with graphic novels, biographies, picture books, classics and new releases told from the point of view of women.

I want to present my students with narrators like Salamanca Tree Hiddle from Walk Two Moons and the female warriors found in The Children of Blood and Bone; from realistic fiction to fantasy, I want my students to hear the voices of girls from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.

It's been said that women hold up half the sky, I would like the shelves of our classroom library to show equal representation to female protagonists.
