My Students

Our school is located in the inner city of Philadelphia. Our students come from many different backgrounds and are culturally diverse. Many of their families don't speak English, and they are here for the first time. The students strive for greatness and are motivated to learn. Our students enjoy a variety of different sports and enjoy physical activity. The students at Penn Treaty respect one another and most importantly the students love school and are ready to learn no matter the circumstances.

My Project

I am the high school varsity basketball coach at Penn Treaty Middle/High school. The community around here is known as high poverty. Playing basketball keeps students out of trouble and are motivated to do better in school. When I started here 4 years ago, the team was 1-12 with the one win coming by forfeit. We have improved our record each of the following years by going 5-7, 10-3 and this past season we went undefeated in our league. With that said, our team does not have the same resources as other programs. We play in a building that has been around since 1927. We are trying to install an actual basket with a rim that does not bend so that our students can continue to improve their skills.

Getting newly adjustable basketball hoops will help this program.

Not only will our team be able to practice, but the Physical Education classes will be able to enjoy the appropriate height hoops as well. These students deserve a fair chance to practice and play basketball!
