Wobbling As I Learn!

My students need wobble chairs to use instead of chairs. Some of my students have difficulty sitting still due to medical and educational challenges. Additionally, they find it uncomfortable to focus on their learning in chairs.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most educators feel their classroom of students are the best and greatest. Although I can't argue with their opinions, I happen to think that I have the best and greatest students on this planet. There isn't a day that I don't look forward to seeing their faces and seeing them develop in knowledge and wisdom before my eyes. I may be their teacher, but they teach me so many lessons each day as well. Last school year I had the honor of being my students' third-grade literacy teacher. For the 2016-2017 school year, I was granted the gift of being their teacher again.

My students attend a Title l school located in the South Bronx in which 30% live in shelters.

Despite the obstacles they face on a daily basis, they are always eager to learn and never give up hope. As their teacher, I buy the majority of the materials they need to help them achieve their academic goals out of my own pocket because I want to provide them with the opportunities to learn and experience things they never imagined. I want to instill the joy that learning can bring regardless of the challenges within their own life.

My Project

Many of my students have great difficulty focusing due to their learning disabilities and medical conditions. I have a student that had back surgery in which has difficulty sitting for a long time in a hard, plastic chair. These chairs will be used all throughout the day including work stations, independent work, and during morning meeting. Whenever the students look unfocused or frigidity, the wobble chairs will be used in order to help them meet their sensory needs and keep them on task for a longer period of time. We have bean bag chair already and they have made an amazing difference. If I can continue to meet the needs of all my students with learning disabilities and medical conditions it would be a blessing.

Being able to sit in a chair that naturally allows students to move will increase their ability to focus and learn.My ultimate goal is to build a classroom in which traditional seating will no longer be the standard and all sensory challenges will be met.

This project will get me one step closer to my goal! After reading numerous reviews by teachers across America that have introduced flexible seating to their classrooms I am confident that my students will also benefit from the wobble chairs. Please donate and change the method of learning within my classroom, every dollar counts!
