This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of our students at PS 84 are a part of an integrated co-teaching classroom that fosters inclusion and encourages supports to provide the least restrictive learning environment for our students. The materials requested will be provided to special education classrooms from Pre-k to 5th grade. The items will be distributed between classrooms for students who would benefit from them. At P.S. 84 we understand that no two students fit the same mold. Our goal is to create a safe, comfortable, and inclusive environment for all our students to learn.

My Project

There are four different types of learners: visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. Teachers often take this into account and do their best to incorporate each of the different learning styles into every lesson. Where a student chooses to sit has just as big an impact on their learning as how the information is presented. Some students feel most comfortable and engaged when they can move while others are able to maintain attention in the same position for hours at a time.

The adaptive seating we will provide students the option to choose and explore the different types of seating that can help them learn best.

Students who prefer to move while they learn can use a wobble stool, while those who just need a slightly more flexible surface can use a wobble cushion. Adaptive seating is a safe, non-disruptive method to accommodate the seating needs of P.S. 84 students to facilitate their best learning environment.
