Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my class are kind and loving individuals who come to class each day ready to learn. We are in a small town and I love how these kids care for each other like family. My students live in a rural area of Texas and we are apart of a smaller school district that does not have funding for certain classroom materials.

Sometimes, my students have a harder time focusing and engaging in learning, but over time we have realized that with individualized seating options, students success rates are soaring.

Many of them come from low income families with a mixture of cultures. My Co-Teach classroom has a wide range of learning abilities and our campus works tirelessly each day to meet their needs in the best way possible.

My Project

A 2013 report from the Institute of Medicine concluded that children who are more active “show greater attention, have faster cognitive processing speed and perform better academically than children who are less active." So many students struggle to remain seated and focused during the school day, and my 7 and 8 year old students are no exception to this. Currently, we have a couple stools and desk foot bands and I have seen a major positive impact in our students like decreased frustration and increased work completion.

Slight movement like rocking, bouncing, or kicking allows students to keep their bodies in motion all while keeping their minds focused.

The materials I'm asking for in this project will give students to ability to take charge of their learning by allowing them to select a seating option that works best for them. I am hoping that these additional options will mean that no student in my class has to go without.
