Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title 1 school in East New York. My students are special needs students with disabilities such as speech and language, Emotional Disturbance, ADHD, Learning Disabled and Autism. Most of them are from Hispanic and/or African American backgrounds. They come from single-family homes, non-English speaking parents and have a low social economic status. All of these factors, are known to affect education drastically. Despite all the hardships my students may face when out of the classroom, they still come to school with a smile on their face, ready to learn, every single day.

My Project

My students would love to have flexible seating options available to them that will help them succeed and meet their individual needs. They often get fidgety and restless. A comfortable learning environment would enable them to be more engaged and ensure learning throughout the school day.

My students need an environment that helps them feel relaxed and is conducive to learning.

By creating an environment that fosters student learning my students will be able to grow to their maximum potential. The wobble chairs will help my students move while learning in the classroom. The balance ball seats will help my students slightly bounce during important class lessons. Students are often asked to sit for long periods of time throughout the school day and these chairs will help them move while keeping their minds alert and focused.
