My Students

My classroom is a print-rich, math-driven environment created to make all students feel successful. I want my students to feel at home! I strive to create a structured classroom environment where students feel comfortable in expressing their thoughts and feelings, as well as in their actions.

I teach in a high-poverty school, and many students come in to my classroom looking for a structured, non-distracting environment.

With many students coming in having behaviors that cause distractions, I want to create an environment to minimize as many of those distractions as I can. Many students have been diagnosed with certain learning disabilities, or ADD/ADHD. And because they are Kindergarten students, they like to move and wiggle! Why make them sit still all day long? At home, they don't sit still, so the transition to K can be a difficult one! I want my students to feel comfortable in my classroom and I want all students to feel successful, whether they have a learning disability, a behavior problem, or are just a typical wiggly little Kindergartener!

My Project

I'm asking for 3 Wobble Seats to include in my classroom for those little wigglers who need some movement while working. It's hard to remain seated in a chair, sometimes we need to stand up or move our feet or our bodies when working. If my students are in a chair or standing up, there may not be enough room to move about while working. Providing these extra wobble seats will allow for those that need it to move around without distracting others. Sometimes I use crate seats in my classroom to help, but again, those don't move, so students fall off of them or try to rock them back and forth without much success. These wobble seats will allow for that movement with safety in mind and keep those busy little minds at work while moving! Plus, they will allow for those hyper students to not distract others because they can make the choice to have a regular chair or a wobble seat! This will be a great way to differentiate in the class by providing a choice to those that need it!

I think sometimes we forget that kids can't sit still all day long.

Donating to this project will allow for ALL students to get those modifications that they need, especially those with ADHD (who need that movement in the classroom). They can have the choice as to where to sit that will best fit their needs for the day. In doing so, this will ensure that all students can be successful and minimize disruptions in the classroom.
