My Students

I teach kindergarten in a very high poverty area in Philadelphia. Most students enter kindergarten with no preschool experience; yet, they are excited to learn. I am committed to providing them with the experiences necessary to help them grow academically, socially, and behaviorally.

Learning is sometimes difficult when you must sit on those hard, plastic, blue chairs, the same hard, plastic, blue chairs that we had to sit on so many years ago!

The children sometimes have difficulty focusing and attending on these chairs. With your help, I will try to help them.

My Project

My kindergartners are still sitting on the same hard blue chairs we sat on when we were young. The children are very uncomfortable and wiggly.

The children asked if they can have different seats, seats that let them wiggle and move while they work.

The children said that they saw the different seats in other classes and asked if we can get them in our class, too. I asked what kind of seating they would like.

The children asked for Wobble Chairs, ball chairs, and beanbag chairs. I think this is a great idea! This alternate seating will let the children move, bounce, and wiggle while working and, in turn, will help them to focus and learn. The seating will be rotated so that all have the opportunity to benefit.
