My Students

Kester Elementary is a school full of multicultural students who are a mixture of ELD, special needs, and gifted students. They are eager students who are ready to learn and try their best.

More than half of our students come from low-income families who cannot provide them with the resources they need to help give their children the best education possible.

These students are the ones on the free or reduced-price lunch list.

My Project

Financial literacy is very important for a child to learn before entering the real world. The past eight years I have taught my students how to balance their own money by creating accounts for each child to deposit and withdraw money through their register.

Each child gets a welcoming $100 when they enter my class.

After that point their get to deposit or withdraw in increments of $5. They get multiple opportunities a day to earn money in their account. With the money they earn, every other week we have a silent auction. But our daily busy schedules sometimes gets in the way of doing our auctions. This year I want to set up a "Store". I want to create a display that shows the children what we have for sale to allow the children to purchase things whenever they want. This will also be something the children see my classroom all the time to motivate them to earn more money.

Having a "Store" will allow things to be more accessible in my classroom. Children will earn and spend their money as they please. While helping them learn about financial literacy. Thank you for your support in advance.
