Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In an urban setting, schools can become crowded with children of all sorts of needs and resources can be scarce. My children have special needs and require more support than are typically needed. I try to make learning fun and stress-free. In order for my children to succeed, I make sure they are happy and have access to anything I can provide for them if it means they'll be able to access the curriculum with less difficulty.

My students have unique minds and abilities.

They amaze me every day! They work hard and push past obstacles. They have days that are more difficult than others, but they always manage to get a smile back onto their faces!

My Project

My goal is to build a classroom that is rich in conversation, collaboration, and community. From a morning message that greets my students as they walk in the door, to displaying our weekly reading stories and displaying math talks, a new easel will allow my students to engage equally with new academic content in a small group setting. This easel is mobile and will allow me to hang chart paper and pocket charts, as well as write messages. With a new easel, my students will be able to come up and share their ideas, discover new information, and add on or ask questions of their classmates. Over time, they will be able to pass the pen to one another and take charge of their own independent learning.

This project will have a lasting impact on my students' identities as learners.

When they are able to read, write, and share their own ideas, they will actively grow into their own scholarly identities. With this easel, I will be able to develop lessons that are engaging and relevant to my students. The materials and curriculum will become a part of our shared space, in which each child can construct his/her own knowledge through actively participating and creating new meanings.
