Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title one elementary school in the South part of Houston, Texas. My students are amazing! Everyday they enter the classroom with excitement to learn something new. My classroom is a dual language classroom where 21 kindergarten students are learning both English and Spanish. My students love to read books and teach each other about their native language.

Imagine coming into a classroom where you can comfortably speak the language that is spoken at home and not be judged, and at the same time learn a new language to help you through life.

Well thats what we do in my dual language kindergarten class. My students come from a low income neighborhood, where it is difficult to stay away from bad influences because of what these children are exposed to on the daily basis. My students come to school everyday ready to learn and excited about what new words they will learn in my classroom in their non native language. It is difficult for my students to acquire a new language since most of them have no support at home. Therefore I want to ensure that my students have what ever they need to become successful.

My Project

Last school year we had an easel that was falling apart, it wouldn't hold anchor chart paper and wasn't very interactive. This school year I would like my students to have an easel that can help them learn during or morning messages, and group gatherings. The easel can also become and interactive learning center for reading and writing.

Reusable Write & Wipe Pockets are a great way to incorporate during learning centers in math and reading.

The chair pockets will be a great way for each student to store their interactive notebooks and materials.

These materials will make a difference in my students learning because they will have be able to learn on an easel that is not falling apart, using the wipe pockets during classroom instruction and the chair pockets, to have a place of their own to store their classrooms materials.
