My Students

I work in the South Bronx in a poor community. All the children receive free lunch. I am a Special Education Teacher and I work with 12 students. The majority of my student are boys and they all have a disability whether learning, speech or other.

As a special education teacher, I want to provide my students the necessary resources such as books which will help them learn to read and explore new books.

These students need books in order to read and learn. I have students who read level A book and I do not have these books in the classroom. I have about two students who read at level A books and I struggle finding these books.

A library will be great because all students will enjoy reading different leveled books. Teaching is such a rewarding experience. I love when I see my students faces excited and happy to have new resources. The classroom will be full of book and all the students will be excited to learn and explore new books. I ask that if you can please donate. Thank you.

My Project

All my students need Leveled books in order to learn. The non fiction and fiction books will allow my students to have a real library. I love how this set included all the bins and the levels of the book. I love the book baggies because children have a place to keep all their books in order for independent reading.

I have two students who are reading at level A and I do not have these books in the classroom.

Every week I have to go to the local library in order to borrow books for the students. Some of the books I ordered are part of the curriculum We Are Reader’s. We were given a curriculum however, the books where not included. Therefore, teachers had to borrow the books or buy them.

The felt puppet will allow my students to see visually and learn cognitively about books topics like setting, characters, plot and summary. The felt puppet is a fun and interactive way to read the stories. Special Need students love visually because it allows them to learn.
