Do you sometimes find it hard to read small print? I am a kindergarten teacher in an inclusive classroom. I serve students varying in abilities from typically developing, developmentally delayed to visually impaired. I strive to meet the needs of all students socially, emotionally and academically.
I am a teacher in a large city in North Carolina.
My school provides the classroom teacher and students with many supports. I have researched to find additional ways to provide the ultimate learning environment. To meet the needs of a visually impaired student is opening my eyes to a different approach to learning and the teaching style used in the classroom.
Science is an area where I am striving to find additional supports. During instruction and experiment demonstrations, it is imperative that all students can view the procedures. Through research and hands on experience, I have learned the value and uses of a document camera. A document camera provides a way for demonstrations to be projected on a large screen. This will greatly benefit all students in the class. The document camera would be connected to the computer and sent through the LCD projector onto a screen. The computer, LCD projector and screen are available at my school. The document camera can be used in many ways and in different area of the school day. The document camera can be used to project science demonstrations, display student work, project books or photographs, and as an observation tool to view animals.
The use of the document camera will help the children in many ways.
The teacher and students in the class will be able to use the document camera to share various items with the entire class. The document camera will enable us to view work in progress so we can discuss ways to improve our hard work, extend our support to completed work or allow the teacher to demonstrate appropriate techniques. The document camera will help us to provide 21st Century technology to support our future.
