This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school has a mixture of students from age 3 to age 6. Approximately 40-45% students have been diagnosed with special needs or developmental delays. The students come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, highly transient families making it difficult for families to meet the basic needs of our students such as having a method of cleaning their clothes.
My Project
Students have difficulty learning when they are concerned about basic needs. When they come to school and other students make comments about how their clothes are dirty or smelly the students are not focused on what the teacher is trying to teach them. At this age students often have toileting accidents, but they may not have running water at home. A cleaning station allows the teacher to help clean the child’s clothes before they go home so that the child does not worry about how they will get clean. This makes for a better learning environment.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
