Wisconsin Fast Plants - The New Wave Of Genetics Inquiry!

My students need 5 of The Wisconsin Fast Plants Classroom Kit! These plants are the new wave of genetics education. Hello fast plants, goodbye fruit flies!

My Students

Remember the hours you spent looking through a microscope sexing fruit flies and determining whether or not they had curled or normal wings in high school? Well those days are over! Wisconsin Fast Plants enable students to experience and control dihybrid crosses, enabling them to live the science!

We are an urban school with a focus on Montessori and IB education.

My students are ninth and tenth graders that are engaged in inquiry based science classes. They love to discover, manipulate, and learn through hands-on experiences, and they love to do "real science."

My Project

Wisconsin Fast Plants will enable my students to see, touch, and manipulate genetics! When my students are able to design their own investigations, they are much more engaged in the material. When they are engaged, they learn and are intrinsically motivated to learn. By getting rid of the barrier of the microscope skills and doing this project in the spring, the students can learn genetic concepts easily and delve into the subject more deeply.

This is an expensive project, but one that is really important to my curriculum.

My curriculum is advanced, engaging and inquiry based. This project will not just be an assignment but an investigation into their lives too with broader projects. Furthermore, when students can build memories about their learning experiences, they are more likely to remember the concepts. Think of all the memories!
