This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I see every student in fifth through eighth grade for either Chemistry, CSI Forensics, or Astronomy. Students attend my class for six weeks at a time and every day is important. In order to get the full impact of each topic, netbooks allow students to have instant access to research and questions in class.

In Astronomy, Chemistry and CSI Forensics, students express an inquisitive attitude but resources are not always available for them to find information needed.

This lack of resources can impede learning, motivation, and success. My students are always excited to learn and each day I admire them for their ability to showcase their skills and potential on a daily basis. I believe that teaching them how to utilize these skills and retrieve the information they need is essential for ensuring their success. They are always challenging me to see how far I can push their potential and teach them how what they are learning can affect their lives now and in the future. As an educator I feel that it is part of my job to get my students the tools that are necessary for them to be an asset to their community.

My Project

Your donation for three netbooks will give my students an opportunity to participate in more hands-on learning experiences that will prepare them to be more competitive academically and creatively in today's global marketplace. Students will search, utilize and reference instant information available on the Internet to document class projects. They will create multi-media projects ranging from crime scene investigation techniques, egg drop projects and solar system scale models and building atoms. They will test acids and bases and other hands-on applications in Astronomy, Chemistry and Forensics. In our school, we have a number of English as a Second Language students who have trouble communicating with their peers or their educators because of the language barrier. Utilizing an internet resource such as Google Translate will allow them to communicate, interact and bridge the language gap between themselves and their classmates. This gives everyone the best opportunity for success.

By donating to this project, you can give 600 students EVERY SCHOOL YEAR an opportunity to use these netbooks to build successful skills to use in life.
