Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students in the First grade are mostly English Language Learners who are looking for means to help them expand their vocabulary in a different and unique way, by using wipe-off markers to write!

The students have these wonderful wipe-off boards on which they can practice writing their letter sounds and increase their vocabulary. They also have great word study center materials in the classroom that require wipe-off markers to use. However, what these students are lacking are the tools to write on these materials, wipe-off markers. The markers seem to disappear or throughout the years have dried out and these kids are left with nothing to write with.

If my students had wipe-off markers, they would be able to practice writing their sights words and writing sentences. They could also use their artist side and draw a picture to go along with their words. They could go back to using the word study centers that we have in the classroom. If the students had wipe-off markers they could use them in the other subjects areas such as math by practicing their addition and subtraction facts, in science by drawing the seasons and social studies by writing about their community.

The wipe-off markers would give these students a different outlet than just regular,ordinary paper and pencil. Please help these students experience writing through other means. Allow them to take risks! By using the wipe-off markers and the erasers they can feel safe using the markers and making mistakes which can be easily wiped off of the boards or materials. Please help these children by giving them an opportunity to have fun as well as learn while using the wipe-off markers!
