My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. My students are all different types of learners and have various backgrounds. I have students who do not speak English, students with disabilities, and some students who are homeless.
I teach at a Title I school in the Bronx, New York where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive food and clothing from the school's charity drives. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
All of my students come from low income housing, shelters, or many struggle to afford decent housing. Because of the lack of shelter, many times clothing is not a priority for the parents of my students.
Many of my students do not have winter coats, they simply layer on multiple shirts and sweaters.
Having these coats would allow all my students to stay warm this winter. For many, it would also be the first time they have a brand new clothing item that no one has previously owned. This would bring so much joy to the students and their parent who work really hard to make ends meet.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
