Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, my students always try to keep a smile on their faces. I teach a 6th grade class, where many of the students are first-year English Language Learners. The second class is a 6th grade dual language class. Both set of student are unique individuals with a passion to learn.

How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed?

There are 55 amazing students in my 6th grade math class who come from bilingual households and receive free or reduced-price lunch. The school serves grades 6-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. As a school, we focus on our students academic, social and emotional growth. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college.

My Project

Winter is coming! That means it will start to get colder. There are students who have just arrived to this country in my class, that do not have winter coats, gloves, and hats. They are in need of winter gear.

These winter coats, gloves, and hats will help students stay warm as the temperature begins to drop.

Students should not have to worry about these essentials.

I am also requesting for healthy snacks to keep in the classroom. Students tend to eat junk food for breakfast and often complain of being hungry in class. I want to be able to provide students with the option of a healthy snack.
