My Students

In the city of Newark, many West Ward students live below the poverty line. Some can not even wear clean clothes to school and are targets for bullies. Some students are teased and chastised because they were showing up to school in unkempt manners. Some of these students were becoming chronic absentees—missing three to five days of school per month—out of shame. We are a Title I school. How about giving them something to keep them engaged and excited about coming to school or working from home.

My Project

During the pandemic when all students are glued to the computer screen, to break up the monotony and spark some interest in a project that uses math skills, creativity, and more to keep them engaged, how cool would it be if students could map out a delivery route using a drone to send a note, pencil, just about anything in these times where we are mandated to stay at home. Students will be able to see what's going on while staying out of harm's way. I can virtually teach my students about drones, flying, certifications, and fly routes. Students will be using skills they never knew they had and how rewarding is it to fly a drone, create a fly delivery route, and record it at the same time. It can be done and our kids can do it. Most if not all of my students have never flown a drone or had the opportunity to even handle one. They know it's cool but very expensive also.

My kids deserve the chance to experience drone flight and maybe even become certified operators!
