This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to discover a series of books that became the hottest commodity in the library? You did everything you could to be the next one on the "checkout" list and then some!!!! You would scour the shelves in hope that someone slid one back to its special spot.

Our school is located in an urban setting.

The classroom consists of 27 students, some with special needs and some who are English learners. Several children in my class recently received copies of the WIMPY KIDS books during a Red Cross Literacy Bookmobile visit. Now, they almost salivate waiting for friends to finish the books and pass them on to others. They truly LOVE the text and cartoon format of the books!

My Project

Picture students with their noses in books and not hearing me because they are soooooo engrossed in their reading! Offering multiple copies of the book series will allow friends to read the "same book at the same time" and create more camaraderie in the classroom. Having Spanish versions of the books will allow my Hispanic children to practice their native language.

Your generosity can help student literacy continue to grow as well as help my fifth graders to "wait a turn" to read these humorous books by Jeff Kinney.
