My Students

I am a special education teacher in a Title One, self contained elementary school located in New York City. I have a Kindergarten class with students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Students in my classroom have poor fine and gross motor skills and limited language. They are visual learners and require various visuals and manipulatives to aid them in reaching their goals.

In our classroom we support and encourage independence and provide students with an abundance of opportunities to achieve success at their own pace.

My students have the most success with hands-on activities!

My Project

The iPad will be used for a variety of purposes. I feel that this visual device will help improve communication, social skills and allow my students to be hands-on with their learning. When working with children with special needs, each student requires literacy and math activities tailored to their individual level which the iPad would provide.

Using technology will allow me to meet each students' needs and goals in an interactive and engaging way.

To be successful in today's society, students must have a working knowledge and be familiar with navigating different types of technology. Having an iPad to use in the classroom will help my students acquire technology skills and at the same time help them improve in their other academic areas.

The iPads will be specifically used to help my students focus on math and literacy skills. Having an iPad will allow my students to have unlimited interactive, hand-on activities making math and reading fun!
