Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember your favorite part of kindergarten? For most of us, it was the time of day when we got to move around and do hands on activities. I want my students to have this same experience, but we do not have the materials needed.

My students are a wonderful and energetic bunch of kindergartners.

They love to learn and really love when they can touch and feel the learning materials. They attend a charter school in the inner-city that motivates the students to be scholars and college-bound. They are all excited about learning and I want to keep that excitement going with engaging and meaningful lessons and activities.

My Project

I am requesting these materials because they will be excellent tools of review for my students while also fostering independence. It is imperative that there be time for small group instruction in the classroom. This time allows me to focus in on the specific academic needs of particular students. While I am pulling my small groups the rest of the students are in academic learning workstations. These workstations allow the students to review important skills and have fun while doing so. They also teach the important skill of being able to work independently. This will assist the students not only this year but for many years to come. I have requested file folder games for math and language arts. I have also requested math station activities and a five senses activity kit that includes books and hands-on activities that can be used during science. Lastly, I have requested a math graphing kit. This is a great hands-on kit that allows the students to learn graphing skills.

100% of my students qualify for the free lunch program at our school.

They come from a low income neighborhood that has been drastically impacted by our present economic crisis. I have made it a point to make sure that the time they spend in school is both fruitful and fun. School has truly become their second home and by helping us with these materials I can continue to make it the best part of their day.
