My Students

My students are amazing. I know you probably hear this a lot, but seriously, they are phenomenal. They attend a Title I school in the Bronx where they each receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Our students often have the odds stacked against them, but they do not let this define them.

Our students are creative, innovative and full of life, but this is only part of what makes them so phenomenal.

Our kids are continually defying odds. We have the unique ability of being a public school with a mission to help the world around us in regards to wildlife conservation. Even in an urban setting our students are constantly coming up with ideas to not only help get the word out about species in peril but also to help in their own neighborhoods.

My Project

My students love learning about the world and wildlife around them! Teaching in the Bronx this can be a little tricky to accomplish so having good resources is key. Last year I requested 23 copies of the book Endangered, this year I would like to have 10 more copies that my conservation class can read it for a project. I also also requesting many other wildlife inspired books so that my students can have a visual library at their disposal.

When my students are able to see wildlife on screen it becomes so much more meaningful to them.

Recently we have been analyzing the species in the Planet Earth series and my students have been enthralled. They were beyond excited to see that a new version was coming out. Along with requesting the Planet Earth II documentary I am also requesting a portable Blu-Ray player. I move room to room to teach and being able to take this with me will be ideal. We will never have to worry about a disc drive in another room not working.

The clicker and laser pointer is going to be the thing that dreams are made out of in my class. Okay, so maybe it won't be that magical but seriously, in having this I will be able to point things out on slides and the screen when were watching stuff. It will also allow me to click through a presentation while walking around the room instead of having to stand right in front and in the way.
