My Students

Often, our students do not have the opportunity to make connections in the community and participate in meaningful trips.

A trip to the Philadelphia Zoo would compliment our science unit while giving our children an opportunity to build independence and confidence in the community.

This trip will not only provide academic enrichment, but it will also have a positive impact on my students’ ability to relate to the community around them in and out of school. Students with Autism benefit from practicing their new skills in a variety of settings to increase their independence. This opportunity will afford my students opportunities to continue to develop their social and academic skills. In school, we’ve fundraised the admission costs for the students! Funding for this donors choose project would cover the cost of the school bus to the zoo.

My Project

My Autistic Support class is heading to the Philadelphia Zoo! The project will reach 20 children with ASD and the adults that work with them every day. Without fundraising, these opportunities would not be possible. The zoo guarantees a unique chance for us to work on communication, socialization, and academic skills while in the community. Students will ASD need as many community based experiences as possible to build their independence and confidence.

While at the Zoo, students learn about a variety of animals and their habitats.

They will also be encouraged to ask questions, make observations, and use map skills to navigate their surroundings.
