My Students

Help us continue to stay in shape! Childhood obesity is a rising epidemic and sadly my students can easily fall prey to this dilemma.

My students are fun loving teenagers with multiple disabilities ranging from physical disabilities, autism, down syndrome to mental retardation.

My students only receive Physical Ed. twice a week, with three other classes. The gym is overcrowded and my students often do not have enough opportunities to be as active as they should be.

My Project

Thanks to generous donors, I was able to receive a Wii last year, however my students are getting bored with the current game we have and have been asking for a new game with extra remotes so that they don't have to wait as long for their turn. The new games and remotes, would motive my students to continue to stay active, increase their stamina, and improve their social and turn taking skills. The speakers would allow them to hear the directions of the games clearly and the extension cord would minimize the numerous wires on the floor allowing more room for my students to move freely. The Wii would be used on alternate days when they do not have gym.

By supporting this project, my students will be able to continue to exercise in the classroom and decrease the likelihood of becoming obese in adulthood.

These activities will also improve their gross motor skills and hand eye coordination.
