Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual and learning disabilities, speech impairment, emotional disturbance, and autism spectrum disorder. They struggle with processing information. Teaching them using different modalities is extremely important to make sure I reach all of my students.

My students are first and second graders with both emotional and academic delays.

Most of my students are performing one to two grades below grade level, but are still expected to reach grade level Common Core standards as all other general education students. They are students that love learning but realize they are facing a challenge. Most of my students benefit from tactile and visual learning.

My Project

I teach first and second graders in a small classroom setting. Most of the students have trouble sitting still and are in need of constant movement. Wobble chairs provide the same core training of an exercise ball but applied to a kid's stool which is less distracting and takes up less space. The bands and straps will help certain students that need support in this area but do not necessarily need a wobble chair. These stools and other tools will help my students focus on their work with the flexibility of moving in place. These tools will help keep the students engaged in their work when otherwise they would have been disengaged much sooner. My project will make a difference for my students because it allows the students who need to move the flexibility to do so without causing distraction to the other students.
