My Students

Can you imagine your 7-year-old self sitting still for 7 hours per day? I am lucky enough to teach 2nd-grade students who are typically 7-8 years old. These students are bright, curious, and excited to learn. They are also very energetic. I have one student who jumps up and down with excitement when she gets something right or thinks something is funny during our shared reading. Most of my students are like her and learn best when they are not restricted to their seats. Sitting still at a desk is not conducive to their natural learning style.

Allowing the wiggles and giggles to occur makes learning a joyful experience and cultivates a classroom community of equity where students get what their bodies need so we can learn the serious stuff we learn in 2nd grade!

Flexible seating options and fidget items help these wonderfully excitable 7-year-olds release their energy in positive ways so large amounts of learning can continue.

My Project

Do you remember your primary grade self? I am certain you remember jumping, running, and twirling, not sitting in a chair. Being confined to your desk is not how a 7-year-old feels most comfortable! Flexible seating options, fidget bands for the chairs, and sensory toys and fidget gadgets help these young learners focus on the task of learning new academic standards.

My second-grade students need to move, wiggle and find joy in learning.

These chair cushions, fidget bands for the chairs, small rugs, and fidget gadgets will assist my scholars to learn the vast number of standards presented in the second grade. This occurs when students are engaged and comfortable.
