This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title 1 school for a district that strives to help kids succeed! Many of my students come from poverty level conditions and have emotional or physical conditions that get in the way of their learning. ADD and learning disabilities provide challenges for our students who already are struggling. Trying to teach children who need additional support requires me, as their teacher, to ask for help. Sometimes children in this type of social economic status don’t have high expectations in regards to school. This is for them. These kids need to know there are people who care for their education, and I am their biggest cheerleader. They can have a different ending to their story.

My Project

It is a fact that many of our students are now being diagnosed with ADD. Our classroom set ups do no accommodate their needs. Our chairs don't allow for any type of movement. The tile floors are not comfortable and don't allow our students to work comfortably in a small group. As a teacher I see many of my students struggling due to their need to wiggle a little as they listen to instruction. Sometimes my students have a hard time staying focused due to the fact they are not comfortable in their chairs. I am very hopeful that the wiggle chairs will allow my students to stay focused and in return increase their learning.

By donating to our project, you will not only help our students' diagnosis to not have a negative effect on their everyday life, but improve greatly their academic success!

Students will be able to move around the room and use the wiggle chairs. They will be able to focus on their learning with the use of the bouncy bands since it allows them to have some type of movement, which is necessary for them. The portable lap desks will allow them to stand at their desks since sitting for too long can be a difficult task for many of them.
