My Students

A typical day in my classroom starts with singing in Spanish, and then moves forward with us trying to make daily connections with each other while staying in the target language. Every day we are moving, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking!

My students are a highly motivated group of young adults that see the value of education.

Our student population is extremely diverse, but the reality is they have very little exposure to any Spanish speakers or Spanish speaking cultures. They do, however, understand the importance of supporting each other and lifting others up while they strive to become knowledgeable global citizens. Our school embraces rigorous academics with strong support systems to help our students find success.

My Project

My students love to read, but many don't have access to non fiction materials in Spanish at their reading level. Scholastic News is highly engaging with lots of science and social studies for current events.

Most students have no idea what is happening in Spanish speaking countries.

This is a way for our students to know what is happening from month to month, and motivates students to think about the parts of the world that don't speak English!

They also enjoy reading in a variety of seats, so adding wiggle stools increases engagement. We have standard desks as well as a few office chairs, but adding stools will be a great addition for those who like to move without actually getting up.
